The DETOX Myth
As I often get asked questions about “detoxes”, I’ve decided to give my 2 cents worth.
What most people think of like a detox, is really only your body working better.
Most people are so TOXED, that a simple break from their daily RE-TOX program will enable them to see a positive shift in their bodies. When people actually work to identify the source of the pollutants they pump into their body and stop insulting their own system and start eating according to a real food eating plan, the body will start doing what it is supposed to do, what it desires to do, and what it has been waiting to do, and that is to start working better.
That is why what most people think of like a detox or a cleanse, is actually only your body working more efficiently.
When people start using products in an effort to force a cleansing reaction, or detox, what they end up doing is purging. This will dump some stored junk from some of the cells, in some parts of the body and then just recycle it right back into the system. This makes them feel like crap and can make a chronically toxic person acutely toxic very quickly.
When people attempt to provoke a detox they inevitably stimulate the cells and this results in accelerated aging, free radical cascades, oxidation, inflammation, and in the case of the brain, brain damage, and this, in turn, leads to even more issues.
If you are not sleeping well, you will not detox no matter how hard you “try.”
Just like we do, when your body is happy it will let go of a lot of baggage, in this case, toxins, and poisons, and will start healing and do some pretty amazing things.
If you think you can simply take a product and force a detox or cleanse your “XXX”, then you need to re-think that plan. If you are stressed or doing this in a health panic, your hormones will stop any detoxing to focus on survival, and this will only compound the issues against you.
SUMMARY, Detox happens when:
- You stop re-toxing
- Eat real foods
- Drink lots of water
- Are highly mineralized
- When hormones are calm and balanced
- Improve your sleep
- Keep insulin exposure down
Hedge your bets and get more from any detox efforts by exercising, meditating, fasting, and keeping your body working at a high neurological level (Chiropractic).
Once you have done this and have a healthy base going, then we can talk about advanced concepts in tissue repair and healing with system-supported detox concepts. This will however not start to happen until we are speaking the same language.
In the meantime, do not try to detox yourself, but rather get healthy and your body will do it for you. But please, do it!
