The Skin is a Hormonal Organ
75% of estrogen for women and 50% of adults testosterone for the body is made where?
Not in the ovaries and testes? ….. NO
Not in the liver or brain? …… NO
The skin. Oh, and nearly 100% of post-menopausal estrogen is made in the skin. The skin my friends IS an endocrine (hormonal) organ. Not a gland-like the liver or pancreas, but a full-on endocrine organ, and the biggest one we have at 10% of a person’s body weight at a healthy weight.
Not only is the skin an endocrine organ that makes hormones for the body including IGF-1, Thyroid, Human Growth Hormone, and many neurotransmitters, but it has its own feedback loop very much like the thalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis that runs so much of our hormonal life inside.
What you put on your skin before it gets absorbed into your blood, which 60-95% of chemicals put on the skin do, goes through this hormone factory and feedback loop in the skin.
Everything from insulin resistance, prediabetes, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are linked back to hormones made in the skin and this rather independent feedback cycle.
Your skin and brain are old friends who have come from the same original embryonic tissue and the skin is constantly feeding info based on what it senses and absorbs to your brain, and your brain listens and changes the rest of the body chemistry in response.
Do you want to improve your testosterone or estrogen health? Protect your skin from any contact with chemicals in soaps, laundry products, cosmetics, fragrances, etc.
Here is a list of the top 12 endocrine disruptors:

Seems beauty and health are only skin deep! Don’t let your vanity kill you my friends!
We can do better!
