Why Conventional Diabetes Program and Traditional Weight Loss Plans Do Not Work
Here is the scary truth about conventional diabetes prevention programs and traditional weight loss plans.
We know the future. We know how this story is going to turn out.
There is a 6-year diabetes prevention study with a 25-year follow-up out of China that essentially tells us where these traditional models will lead us.
This study is on people with prediabetes with blood sugar between 100-125 or impaired blood glucose.
They put a group on a low-cal, low-fat diet and encouraged them to increase recreational physical activity, such as getting more steps and essential daily activity. The other group received only education and no lifestyle plan.
This diet and lifestyle program delayed the onset of type 2 diabetes by 3.6 years.
In the first 6 YEARS, the participants averaged NO weight loss.
And at the 20-year mark, they were down about 9 lbs, while the control group who did not do the program was down about 8. No real difference.
Here is the scary part:
- Type 2 diabetes was delayed, not averted.
- This lifestyle program did not prevent heart disease (the number one killer of diabetes….diabetes being the number one cause of heart disease)
- It did not prevent any heart attacks.
- It did not prevent any deaths.
- It did not prevent early deaths. (A diabetics lifespan is 10-15 years shorter than a non-diabetic.)
- 93% of the prediabetics in the control group developed diabetes.
WHY such MISERABLE outcomes?
They did not change the underlying condition of INSULIN RESISTANCE that causes prediabetes, development of type 2, and heart disease.
Because insulin resistance continued, the health outcomes did not change; they did not avoid diabetes, heart disease, heart attacks, or dying early. YET, they called this trial a success!!!!!!!!
And remember, this can all happen independently of weight loss or being overweight.
In China today, they are developing diabetes faster than in the USA. Over 50% of the adults in China are prediabetic or have type 2 (just like here), while the obesity rate is only 20% of what we have here.
Bottom line: It is not WEIGHT or WEIGHT LOSS, CALORIES, FAT INTAKE, SATURATED FAT, or BLOOD SUGAR that drive this process or programs focused on them that will save us from these diseases.
The focus must be more systematic. The key is HORMONES.
The systemic view focuses on the NEURO-ENDOCRINE balance and synergy.
DO NOT get caught looking the wrong way crossing this dangerous street of chronic disease.
An insulin friendly diet and lifestyle, as in a complete picture view of health, as in a disciplined household and a new map to follow, is the only thing that has the potential to keep us from being one of these statistics.
The good news is that we know how to do this and can help.
Change the map, not just the needle, my friends!
