156 Lbs. Of Sugar Per Year
Nowadays, the average woman weighs 167 lbs. up from 141 lbs. in the 60s and the average man is up from 167 lbs. 195.5 lbs.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the average American eats a massive 156 lbs. of sugar each year!
This equates to 193.8 grams per day or 70,760 grams per year. If we convert the daily number to calories, we get 775 calories which are 38.7% of a 2,000 calorie per day diet – only in sugar.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that we should limit our sugar consumption to 25 grams per day. This means that most Americans currently eat almost 800% of the WHO sugar intake guidelines per day. This number is for adults – kids eat 50% more or 1200% of the recommended daily intake!
Although our sugar intake has gone up dramatically, our fat intake has actually decreased.
Besides our weight, what else has gone up? EVERY chronic disease has gone up, while specific ones have actually exploded, such as heart disease, diabetes, chronic pain, cancer, ADD/ADHD, depression, Alzheimer’s, anxiety, and autoimmune disorders.
Despite these horrific facts, people still insist that they have to have what they “like”.
I don’t think that most people are happy with their health or weight status, or the fact that they’re actually poisoning their kids. AND I definitely don’t like paying higher insurance premiums to cover people that are not healthy because they eat something that they “like”.
If sugar is on the list of things that you eat simply because you “like” it, or because you have always eaten it, or if your parents ate that way, or whatever, you could very well be fueling everything that you don’t like in life.
We can do better. Sugar detoxing is not a joke. There are even some reports that claim that sugar addiction is stronger than being addicted to cocaine. Sugar detoxing is however definitely more available and “pushed” by society across the globe.
Try to give up all sugar for 5 days, and read all the labels on the products you consume to be sure, and see what happens.
Here are some helpful tips to get through:
- Drink lots and lots of water
- Use lots of whole sea salts on your food
- Increase the fat intake of every meal
- Take apple cider vinegar 30 minutes before each meal (mix 1 tsp to 1 tbsp in water)
- When you start feeling anxious take a walk of 5 minutes or longer
And as always, tell us how it goes!
We can do better!
